OLDENBURG VINEYARD

Wright Architects were given the opportunity to refurbish the existing wine-tasting areas and to incorporate the dull external old patio areas to be incorporated into a more expansive unified space that opens up to the beautiful landscape looking onto the Banghoek mountains.

A sense of being connected to the outdoors, where natural light is filtered through the ceiling to echo the experience of sitting under trees with dappled sunlight filtered through the branches and leaves informed the design language.

The warmth of natural materials, in contrast to the heavier existing building reminiscent of traditional Cape Dutch architecture that is rooted in the landscape, with the expansive glass shell that opens up to the landscape, Oldenburg now offers an experience of being connected to the landscape whilst enjoying the superb wines on offer from Oldenburg throughout the year.
